Psaki Warns Biden Not Done Attacking Gun Rights: ‘This Is Only the Beginning’

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has suggested that Joe Biden is planning to introduce more far-left anti-Second Amendment gun-control measures, warning that “this is only the beginning.”

During the Thursday announcement about his set of executive actions and legislative proposals on gun control, Biden claimed the administration’s radical push is because of a “public health crisis.”

The White House seeks to “confront not just the gun crisis but what is actually a public health crisis,” Biden said in a statement from the Rose Garden.

He was joined by Vice President Kamala Harris, who has previously called for guns to be confiscated from law-abiding Americans.

“Nothing I’m about to recommend in any way impinges on the Second Amendment,” claimed Biden, who stated in 2019 that the U.S Constitution doesn’t say that Americans are “entitled” to own guns.

After Biden’s announcement, Psaki stated that the White House has so far only revealed the “initial actions to address gun violence.”

“There will be more,” Psaki warned.

“That is absolutely his commitment, and he also will use the power of his presidency, his voice, his political will to advocate for actions in Congress.”

The administration outlined the following “initial actions” that Biden will take in his attack on gun rights:

  • The Justice Department, within 30 days, will issue a proposed rule to help stop the proliferation of “ghost guns.”
  • The Justice Department, within 60 days, will issue a proposed rule to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act.
  • The Justice Department, within 60 days, will publish model “red flag” legislation for states.

The portion of the statement that mentioned the “stabilizing brace” is a reference to AR and AK pistols, which have barrels that are shorter than the minimum 16 inches required by the National Firearms Act (NFA), according to The Daily Wire.

The statement said that pistols with an arm brace are “concealable,” which doesn’t really mean anything legally speaking and is also laughable to most gun owners since many AR pistols are more than 2 feet long.

The claim that weapons with a pistol brace will be “subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act” means that gun owners will likely be forced to pay a $200 tax stamp on those firearms, which essentially amounts to taxing a group of people who are serious Second Amendment advocates and are largely opponents of Biden and his policies.

Biden claimed during his press conference on Thursday that adding a stabilizing brace to a pistol makes it “more lethal” because it makes the firearm “more accurate.”

While a brace can help stabilize the weapon, a person’s ability to be accurate with a firearm is largely dependent on how much they practice shooting.

The idea that a brace makes a pistol “more lethal” is also not accurate because the brace does not alter the rate of fire of the pistol and does not alter the velocity of the projectile that is fired from the weapon.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) responded to the Biden administration’s new actions by writing that Republicans will pursue all avenues to protect Second Amendment rights.

“President Biden has ordered the DOJ to issue new rules that will surely result in unconstitutional overreach,” McCarthy said.

“Republicans will strongly oppose and pursue every option—be it legislative or judicial—to protect the right to keep and bear arms from infringement by this Administration.”
