A new Gallup poll shows that Joe Biden’s approval ratings are cratering, down 13 points in just a few weeks, and a key to that is a plunge in his approval among independents from 55% in June to 37% now.
Worse is the fact that the poll shows a majority, 53%, now disapprove of his performance as president.
The findings are from a Sept. 1-17 Gallup poll that was done after the U.S. military was ordered out of Afghanistan, leaving behind not just Americans but thousands of Afghans who supported America’s work there for years, and the terrorists of the Taliban in control. Also left behind was some $80 billion in American war machinery.
Only 43% of Americans now approve of Biden’s performance.
“Biden’s recent slides in approval put him in the company of [Presidents Donald] Trump and Bill Clinton, whose ratings were at or below Biden’s current 43% at some point in the first eight months of their presidencies,” the poll reported.
Democrats consistently have approved of Biden as he has presented crisis after crisis, from the border disaster to the Afghanistan catastrophe, to America. Republicans have offered only a token support ranging as low as 6%.
“Independents have shown the greatest variation in their opinions of how Biden is doing. Biden’s current 37% approval rating among independents is his lowest to date and 24 points below his personal high of 61%. Two-thirds of Biden’s slide among independents since he took office has occurred in the past three months,” the poll said.
Washington Examiner columnist Paul Bedard wrote in his Secrets column, “The poor showing of Biden and [Vice President Kamala] Harris is starting to make Democrats nervous as they brace for the 2022 midterm elections and as voters in Virginia and New Jersey prepare to vote for their governors in November.”
